Purito Centella Unscented Toner review

Have you heard? Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner now comes in a fragrance-free version. Purito Centella Unscented Toner is basically the same formula, but without all the essential oils that could make sensitive skin scream in pain. I’m happy they made this switch. No one should ever get an irritation from using a toner, know what I mean?

Should you make the switch to the fragrance-free version now? Yep! Here’s why:

Key Ingredients In Purito Centella Unscented Toner: What Makes It Work?

CENTELLA ASIATICA TO SOOTHE SKIN

Centella Asiatica. Gotu kola. Indian pennywort. Same thing. It’s a small plant that grows in damp areas all over the world, from India and China to South Africa and Mexico. Here’s everything Centella Asiatica does for your skin:

P.S. PURITO Centella Unscented Toner doesn’t just contain 10% Centella Asiatica extract. It also has 4 of its most soothing components: Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid. It’s Centella Asiatica on steroids!

SODIUM HYALURONATE TO HYDRATE SKIN

Sodium hyaluronate its a form of hyaluronic acid that attracts and binds to the skin up to 1000 times its weight in water. Plus, it works well both in high and low humidity conditions. When skin has that much moisture, it plumps up. This alone is enough to make your fine lines look smaller – temporarily. Hydration also makes skin soft and gives the complexion a dewy glow (think Korean skin).

The Rest Of The Formula & Ingredients

NOTE: The colours indicate the effectiveness of an ingredient. It is ILLEGAL to put toxic and harmful ingredients in skincare products.

  • Green: It’s effective, proven to work, and helps the product do the best possible job for your skin.
  • Yellow: There’s not much proof it works (at least, yet).
  • Red: What is this doing here?!
  • Water: The main solvent in the product, it helps other ingredients dissolve in the formula.
  • Butylene Glycol: A humectant that draws moisture from the air into your skin, boosting its hydration levels.
  • Pentylene Glycol: This multi-tasker deeply hydrates skin, aids penetration of other ingredients, improves the texture of skincare products, and even has mild preservative properties.
  • Dipropylene Glycol: Another humectant that binds water to the skin to increase moisture levels and keep it soft and supple all day.
  • 1,2-Hexanediol: A multi-tasking active that improves the feel of the formula, makes skin softer and smoother, and dissolves other ingredients in the product. Plus, it can boost ithe antimicrobial activity of preservatives.
  • Trehalose: A type of sugar with humectant properties. It attracts and binds moisture to your skin, helping to keep it hydrated for longer.
  • Panthenol: Also called pro-vitamin B5, it’s a humectant that attracts water into your skin and binds it in. Plus, it has anti-inflammatory properties that calm down redness and irritation.
  • Carbomer: It thickens the texture of skincare products.
  • Allantoin: A soothing agent that protects skin from irritations and calms down redness.
  • Arginine: An amino acid that deeply moisturises skin and increases its hydration levels.
  • Portulaca Oleracea Extract: A plant extract loaded with antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E and glutathione) to fight premature wrinkles.
  • Ethylhexylglycerin: It hydrates skin and has preservative-like properties.
  • Disodium EDTA: It neutralises the metal ions in the water that would otherwise spoil the formula.

Texture

Like most toners, this too has a texture so watery to the point of being runny. It sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave any unpleasant residue behind. You do need a cotton pad to apply – if you don’t want to make a mess.

Fragrance

It’s fragrance-free. Purito makes a fragranced version of this toner, which smells amazing. But, fragrance is the most irritating ingredient in skincare product. For sensitive skin, it’s a no-go. By taking it out, Purito has made sure everyone can enjoy the wonders of this Centella Asiatica serum.

How To Use It

You can use this toner both in the morning and at night, right after cleansing. For easier application, pour a few drops onto a cotton pad and pat it all over your face.

Packaging

The toner comes in a see-through bottle with a very small opening that releases just the right amount of product you need. It’s practical, but not the prettiest. I guess the simplicity of the bottle is one of the ways they keep the price on the low side. Unfortunately, light can penetrate through the see-through bottle and spoil the antioxidants inside. Store it in a dark place to help it last longer.

Performance & Personal Opinion

Purito Centella Unscented Toner is so lightweight, it sinks in immediately without leaving any stickiness on my skin. I can’t say I saw a huge difference since I’ve started using it. But then, I never do with toners (that’s why I personally don’t use them on a regular basis). It’s not the most hydrating, but if you have dry skin that needs all the help it can get, this’ll up your hydration levels a little.

I don’t find it particularly soothing, but then my skin rarely gets irritated. If you have sensitive skin that throws a tantrum or a compromised skin barrier, the generous dollop of Centella Asiatica in here can help relieve the symptoms and nurse your skin back to health faster.

I don’t think I’m the best person to review this toner because my skin doesn’t need it. But if you have sensitive skin, this is a good way to incorporate Centella Asiatica in your routine without piling on too many extra layers.

How Does Purito Centella Unscented Toner Compare To Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner?

Can I say I much prefer Purito Centella Unscented Toner Compare To Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner? I have two problems with the latter. For starters, Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner only contains Centella Asiatica extract, while Centella Unscented Toner features Centella Asiatica extract AND its four main components (Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid). These four are included separately, making the Unscented version much more soothing for sensitive skin.

The other reason why I’m not a fan of Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner is the fragrance. It has citrus and fragrant flower essential oils that make it smell amazing, but can cause irritations in sensitive skin and anyone who is allergic to them. Why choose the fragranced version when it’s not even as soothing as the Unscented one?!

The Verdict: Purito Centella Unscented Toner is more soothing and less irritating than Purito Centella Green Level Calming Toner.

How Does Purito Centella Unscented Toner Compare To Other Purito Toners?

Like most brands, Purito makes several different toners. Which one is best for you and the needs of your skin? Let’s find out:

  • Purito AHA BHA Refreshing Solution ($19.80): This toner uses 2% salicylic acid to unclog pores and treat acne and 7% Glycolic acid to exfoliate skin and brighten the complexion. The see-through packaging lets light in, spoiling Glycolic acid overtime. Store it in a dark place. Available at iHerb, Stylevana, and Yes Style.
  • Purito DermHA-3 Liquid ($21.00): A hydrating toner with 3 forms of Hyaluronic acid and soothing ingredients to hydrate and soothe all skin types. Available at Look Fantastic and Yes Style.
  • Purito Fermented Complex 94 Boosting Essence ($22.00): A hydrating toner with niacinamide and green tea extract to hydrate skin, brighten the complexion, and prevent wrinkles. If you’re worried about anti-aging, this is your best option. Available at Look Fantastic, Stylevana, and Yes Style.
  • Purito Oat-In-Silky Toner ($21.50): This serum contains a whooping 68.09% oat, one of the most soothing ingredients in skincare. It’s less hydrating than the Unscented Toner, but still an excellent option for sensitive skin. Available at Stylevana and Yes Style.

What I Like About Purito Centella Unscented Toner

  • Lightweight, fast-absorbing texture.
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Slightly hydrating.
  • Soothing.

What I DON’T Like About Purito Centella Unscented Toner

  • Texture is runny.
  • If you don’t have sensitive skin, this doesn’t do much for you.

Who Should Use This?

Everyone can use this toner, but it’s most suitable for sensitive that needs soothing.

Does Purito Centella Unscented Toner Live Up To Its Claims?

CLAIM TRUE?
It makes rough skin caused by external irritation feel smooth and healthy by strengthening the damaged skin barrier with 10% Centella Asiatica Extract while soothing the irritated skin and tightening pores with Witch Hazel Extract. It soothes skin and makes it a little smoother. But I didn’t see any difference in the size of my pores.
This non-irritant essential oil-free Centella toner is the second version of Centella Green Level Calming Toner produced for the skin type that is sensitive to essential oil.
As an alcohol-free and harsh ingredients-free mild toner, it is suitable for sensitive skin.
True.
This product strengthens the skin barrier with 10% Centella Asiatica Extract which promotes the synthesis of collagen, as well as with Panthenol.
The synergy of Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, and Madecassic Acid improves the skin’s elasticity, while the Sodium Hyaluronate ingredient protects the skin from external irritation by forming a healthy moisture barrier.
Notice how they say the individual ingredients do these things, not the product itself. This can’t single-handedly firm skin.

Is Purito Cruelty-Free?

Yes, Purito is cruelty-free. They don’t test their products on animals and don’t sell in countries that require animal testing.
