sebamed anti-dry night intensive cream review

Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream doesn’t lie.

It’s called Intensive for a reason. It’s one of the richest moisturisers I’ve ever come across in the past 10+ years.

If you’ve got very dry, rough skin that just won’t heal or a sensitive complexion that gets triggered by the lowest drop in temperature, read on. This may just be what your skin needs now:

What’s In Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream?

GLYCERIN

No cream for dry skin is complete without Glycerin – and Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream is no exception.

Glycerin is a humectant. In plain English, that’s a moisture magnet. It attracts water from the air into the skin, helping it to keep it hydrating.

The more moisture dry skin can get, the better. Moisture plumps up your skin, so that fine lines and wrinkles look smaller. It soften its texture, so that it’s velvety to the touch. And it makes it glow like it’s lit from within.

C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE

Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream proudly proclaims it uses jojoba oil to moisturise skin. But there are only a few drops of it here.

The real star of the show is C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, an ester of benzoic acid (a natural ingredient derived from cranberries, prunes, and apples). But what does it do here?

  • Reduces water loss: It keeps water into the skin, helping to keep it soft and hydrated for longer.
  • Lubricates skin: It reduces friction when anything rubs against the skin.
  • Texture enhancer: It gives a velvety slip to the texture, so that it glides on more easily.

Don’t let the chemical name scare you. C12-15 alkyl benzoate is 100% safe and does a great job at caring from dry skin, leaving it softer and smoother.

Texture

THICK. It doesn’t spread easily on the skin and takes several minutes to absorb – even if your skin is dry and you’ve applied just the tiniest amount.

Fragrance

Clean. Slightly floral.

How To Use It

It’s the last step of your evening skincare routine. Use just the tiniest amount. A little goes a looooooooong way.

Performance & Personal Opinion

Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream is THICK. I usually appreciate a rich cream in the middle of winter. London is a fantastic city, but the icy winds that sweep through it every day can leave my skin parched and begging for moisture.

But I have to admit, this cream is a bit too rich for me. I use the smallest amount, yet I struggle a little to spread it on my skin. It takes ages to absorb even on my cheeks (the driest area of my face). Mind you, when it does, there’s no greasy residue behind.

If you have a compromised skin barrier – very dry skin that’s get easily irritated, red, and flaky – this cream is a godsend for you.

I love how moisturising it is. It strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, keeping it safe from all external aggressors and giving it time to heal. Plus, it makes skin so soft and smooth.

It’s also a good option for women who are starting on prescription retinoids and need to up their moisturising game to prevent dryness and irritation that usually accompanies them.

For all other skin types, this cream may just be too much. I know that in a month or so, I’ll be switching to something lighter.

Does Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream Live Up To Its Claims?

CLAIM TRUE?
Especially developed to regenerate dry skin conditions, Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream relieves itching, roughness, tension and burning sensations, as well as skin redness.  Yes, it deeply moisturises skin and creates a barrier that protects from further irritations.
It is easily absorbed leaving no greasy residue, supporting and protecting the natural barrier function. It does support your skin’s natural barrier, but it takes a few minutes to fully absorb – even when you use the tiniest amount.
Nourishing complex with natural Jojoba Oil helps to improve the skin`s elasticity. There’s not much Jojoba Oil here to moisturise skin, let alone firm it.
The pH 5.5 promotes the natural barrier function of the skin’s acid mantle. True. But most skincare products are formulated at this pH anyway.
