how to make your own mixing medium tutorial

Before the gods of makeup created Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, you had to use MAC Mixing Medium to foil loose eyeshadows. It has cult following because it makes eyeshadows look SO vibrant. Plus, it helps them adhere better to your lids too.

What’s the secret ingredient that makes this magic trick possible? Glycerin and water. Yep, it’s that simple.

You know what that means? You can easily make your own mixing medium at home. Here’s how:

How To Make Your Own Mixing Medium

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 part liquid glycerin (you can get it at your local pharmacy)
  • 3 parts water
  • A bowl
  • A spoon
  • A small funnel
  • An empty bottle

DIRECTIONS

  • Pour the glycerin and the water in a bowl and stir
  • Pour the mixture into an empty (and clean) bottle

Yes, it’s that easy!

P.S. Anything that has water is a breeding ground for bacteria. Make enough mixing medium to last you only a few short days. Break this rule, and you’ll soon find tiny little black dots (hello, bacteria!) swimming in it.

P.P.S. Even if the bottle is new, wash it anyway. You never know where its’ been and trust me, you do want to go the extra mile to avoid bacteria contamination.
