Ecooking Micellar Water is hands down the gentlest cleanser I’ve tried so far. But, is that a good thing?
Don’t get me wrong. Harsh cleansers are a no-no. They disrupt the skin’s protective barrier, dry out your skin, and even cause breakouts.
But if a cleanser is too gentle, can it really remove sunscreen and heavy makeup? Mmm…
I’ve put it to the test to find out:
What’s In Ecooking Micellar Water?
GENTLE SURFACTANTS TO CLEANSE SKIN
Ecooking Micellar Water isn’t kidding when it claims to be super gentle and suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.
While traditional surfactants (think Sodium Laureth Sulfate) may be too drying for sensitive skin on a daily basis, this micellar water uses the mildest members of the family, like Maltooligosyl Glucoside.
If you’ve never heard of it, there’s a reason. It’s gentle and doesn’t foam much, but it doesn’t the best job at cleansing skin.
If you just want to remove the layer of dirt that’s deposited over your skin during the night, this’ll do. But if you’re wearing makeup or sunscreen (and you totally should! The sunscreen, not necessarily the makeup), gentle surfactants like that won’t cut it.

Texture
Lightweight and foamy. When you spray it on your cotton pad, it looks like a cloud.
Fragrance
It’s fragrance-free. But the smell of the ingredients themselves isn’t the best. At least it’s subtle and it doesn’t hang around long.
How To Use It
In the morning, spray onto a cotton pad to cleanse and then apply the rest of your skincare products.
You could use it in the evening, too, but it struggles to remove makeup.
Performance & Personal Opinion
Ecooking Micellar Water is so gentle, it’s a little more than water in a bottle. Sure, it has cucumber water and a couple antioxidants that soothe skin.
But its cleansing power is barely above that of water. I need two cotton pads to remove all impurities from my skin – and this is in the morning when I don’t have to remove pollution, sunscreen, and makeup from my face!
Ecooking claim this micellar water can do all that. Who knows, maybe it can. But only with a lot of cotton pads and elbow grease.
FYI, there’s no need to rinse it off. Cleanse your skin and proceed with the rest of your skincare routine.
I’m not a fan of this. It just feels gross not to rinse off your face. But this is a personal thing. Some people love the convenience.
I can see why this would be the perfect cleanser for very sensitive skin that reacts to everything. But, for everyone else, it’s way too gentle.
